Relief settings are not a tuning knob for more tons
Some splitter control assemblies incorporate or interact with pressure-relief functions. That does not make the adjustment a safe performance upgrade. Raising a relief setting can expose pump, hoses, cylinder, fittings and the splitter structure to loads they were not designed or documented to carry.
If a replacement valve has an adjustable relief, use the exact manufacturer service specification and appropriate test equipment rather than matching an internet pressure number from another splitter. This page does not provide instructions for increasing system pressure.
Port layout can defeat a “same GPM” replacement
Even when two valves carry similar flow and pressure ratings, inlet/outlet/work-port threads, physical orientation, handle direction and detent arrangement can differ. Adapters can also change hose routing and clearance. OEM part number or an exact hydraulic diagram remains a stronger compatibility basis than a generic rating alone.
When “auto return not working” is not the valve
A lever that will not hold or release correctly can involve the detent mechanism, but slow/no return can also involve low flow, fluid condition, cylinder binding/internal leakage, hose restriction or mechanical interference. Diagnose the return stroke and hydraulic supply before replacing the entire control valve.
